ولدت نازك العابد في دمشق عام 1887 من أسرة دمشقية، والدها مصطفى باشا العابد، كان والياً على الموصل في أواخر العهد العثماني، غير أنّ الأسرة نفيت إلى الأناضول خلال الحرب العالمية الأولى لموقفها المطالب باستقلال سوريا، فانتقلت نازك من مدارس دمشق، حيث كانت تتلقى علومها الأولى، إلى مدرسة الفردوس للمرسلين الأميركان في مدينة أزمير، لتتابع تحصيلها العلمي في المعاهد الخاصة للتعليم، بالإضافة إلى تعلم فنون التصوير والعزف على البيانو، مع اهتمام كبير بالتمريض والإسعاف، وأتقنت خلال ذلك الفرنسية والإنكليزية والألمانية بالإضافة إلى العربية والتركية.
بعد عودتها من المنفى، ودخول الأمير فيصل دمشق في سنة 1918، انضمت نازك العابد إلى “الحركة الوطنية السورية”، ثمّ أسّست “مدرسة لبنات الشهداء” وكتبت في مجلات “العروس” و”الحارس” و”لسان العرب” داعية إلى تحرّر المرأة ورفع مستواها وثقافتها.
وحين أسّست حكومة الملك فيصل جمعية “النجمة الحمراء” في سوريا أوكلت رئاستها للسيدة العابد، التي أسّست لاحقاً في عام 1920 جمعية “نور الفيحاء” لمساعدة ضحايا “الثورة السورية” وأصدرت في العام التالي مجلة “نور الفيحاء” أيضاً، للحضّ على تحرير المرأة والمطالبة بحقها في الانتخاب، وساهمت أيضاً في تأسيس “النادي النسائي الشامي”. وحثت فتيات دمشق على التظاهر للمطالبة باستقلال سوريا، واستكتبت سيدات دمشق عرائض لتحقيق تلك الغاية.
منحت حكومة الملك فيصل في سوريا السيدة العابد رتبة نقيب في الجيش لمواقفها البطولية، كما أسندت إليها في 17 تموز 1920، الرئاسة الفخرية للجيش السوري نظراً لنشاطها الوطني والاجتماعي. ومع دخول الجيش الفرنسي إلى سوريا لاحتلالها، كانت نازك العابد مع وزير الدفاع حينها يوسف العظمة في صفوف الفرقة التي خاضت معركة ميسلون 1920 حيث استشهد العظمة، فيما منح الملك فيصل العابد رتبة جنرال فخرية في الجيش السوري، لكن الحكومة الفرنسية نفتها لمدة عامين إلى اسطنبول.
العابد في الزي العسكري
واستمرت بنشاطها المقاوم للاحتلال الفرنسي بعد عودتها إلى دمشق عام 1922، فأعادوا نفيها ثانية إلى الأردن، ولم يسمحوا لها بالعودة إلى دمشق حتى تعهدت لهم باعتزال العمل السياسي، وفعلاً استقرت العابد في غوطة دمشق، وعملت بالزراعة، حيث فرضت عليها الإقامة الجبرية، وابتعدت عن النشاط قليلاً، حتى اندلعت الثور ة السورية عام 1925، فوجدت العابد طريقها لدعم الثوار في غوطة دمشق ومساعدتهم دون أن تظهر إلى العلن.
حين عُقد في دمشق المؤتمر السوري الأول الذي أعلن ولادة المملكة السورية وتنصيب فيصل ملكاً عليها عام 1920، حضر هذا المؤتمر محمد جميل بيهم من طرابلس ضمن من حضر من وفود بلاد الشام، وتعرّف على العابد التي كانت في أوج تألقها، ثم عاد في عام 1929 ليطلب الزواج منها، فقبلت وانتقلت للإقامة معه في بيروت عام 1930.
شكلت بيروت محطة جديدة في نضال العابد-بيهم الوطني بشكل عام، ونضالها من أجل تحرّر المرأة بشكل خاص، فأسّست عام 1932 “جمعية المرأة العاملة” و”ميتم أبناء شهداء لبنان”، كما أسّست مع زوجها عام 1933 “جمعية مكافحة البغاء”، التي اصطدمت مع التشريعات والقوانين التي حاولت سلطات الاحتلال فرضها، وكانت مشاركتها الأهم في المؤتمر النسائي العربي في القاهرة بتاريخ 12 تشرين الأول 1938، الذي عقد لدعم القضية الفلسطينية أثناء ثورة الكبرى “1936-1939”. حيث تحدثت من ذلك المنبر عن خطر الصهيونية العالمية بخصوص تهويد فلسطين، وخطرها على كيانات المنطقة واقتصادياتها، كما تحدثت عن الدور البريطاني في دعم الحركة الصهيونية.
وبعد نكبة 1948 أسّست العابد بيهم في بيروت عام 1950 جمعية “تأمين العمل للاجئين الفلسطينيين”، بهدف إعداد اللاجئات الفلسطينيات للشهادة الابتدائية، وتعليمهن فنّ الخياطة والتطريز، والضرب على الآلة الكاتبة. حيث أفادت من خدماتها نحو 1700 طالبة فلسطينية حتى سنة 1959، وبلغ عدد منشآتها نحو 22 مدرسة وميتماً ومشغلاً. كما أسست عام 1957 “لجنة الأمهات اللبنانيات”، للعمل على رفع مستوى الأم اللبنانية في كافة مجالات الحياة.
ورغم كل هذا الزخم في النشاط والحيوية لم تتوقف العابد عن الكتابة والقراءة والمشاركة في الحياة الثقافية لمدينة بيروت حتى وفاتها عام 1959 عن عمر يناهز 72 عاماً قضتها في النضال والعمل المستمر لخدمة قضايا مجتمعها وقضية المرأة، مُشكّلة في ذلك الوقت المُبكر نموذجاً للمثقف العضوي بالمعنى الذي تحدث عنه “غرامشي” لاحقاً في تلك الفترة؛ مُثقف يربط بين وعيه وممارسته لخدمة قضايا الناس والمجتمع، حيث ربطت العابد بشكل وثيق بين نضالها الوطني لاستقلال سوريا في إطار بلاد الشام المعروفة خارج إطار “سايكس بيكو”، وبين نضالها ضدّ الجهل والتخلف بشكل عام، كما ربطت في ذلك الوقت المُبكر بين التحرّر والتنوير الديني وبين قضايا حريّة المرأة وحقوقها في المستويات الشخصية والسياسية، رافضة تنميط النساء وفق الأنساق الذكوريّة المُسيطرة في ثقافتنا، ورافضة فكرة تبعيتها للرجل.
ربما يُفسر هذا جانباً من مسألة إهمال الثقافة الذكورية في مجتمعنا لهذه القامة الشاهقة، التي عكست في مرآتها ضعفنا وعجزنا، كذلك رأت الثقافة الأيديولوجية في نازك العابد قامة خارجة عن الأنساق الأحادية لها، فتوافق الجميع على وأد هذه الصفحة المشرقة في تاريخنا، وفي أنظمتنا التي تشكلت خارج أي عقد اجتماعي.
